The “One Thing” Year

The New Year always gives us an opportunity to start afresh. Many of us have our list of the things we want to accomplish this year; including some things you didn’t get to fulfill last year. It’s great to have goals and to-do-lists, I am a big fan of lists, I have an on-going list for everything that I do and I am always doing something, rather I am a multi-tasker. But I discovered in Scripture that there are about 4 ‘one things’ that are to take precedence over everything that we do.

David’s One Thing – Psalm 27: 4 “One thing I have desired of the LORD, that will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD All the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, And to inquire in His temple.”
Did David only want one thing? I doubt it, he had so many problems; his enemies were after him, his son Absalom tried to take the kingdom away from him, his friends betrayed him and on and on. But in the midst of it all his main desire was to dwell in the house of the Lord. He could have wanted revenge on his enemies, riches, fame…but he wanted the presence of the Lord more than anything else. Not only did he want it but he intended to pursue it – “that will I seek after.”
This Year what do you want, a husband, a house, a car, a job, a better job, friends, more friends, money, more money…? Or do you want to do like David and put all that aside and say “One thing I have desired of the Lord, that will I seek after…”
Let this be your “One Thing” year.
